Hi world, this is my attempt to start writing again, but this time adding a new twist to it. A few months ago, a friend (thanks Mason) said to me how much he enjoyed my recipes, cooking anything with an Indian/Asian twist and that I should blog about them. And I was glad to hear it but wasn’t sure if they were good enough. Now, two months later, I said hey why not, I have the time after graduating college, I am in a weird pickle in life, these recipes make me and my friends happy and ON A BUDGET.
So here we are. We’re doing this. And the first post would obviously have to be chai, because hello, did I mention I was Indian. Now chai because in India, it’s not just a beverage. When you walk into someone’s house, whether for a visit, a celebration, a festival, even funerals, before even hello, there’s, “Chai?”
At the crack of dawn, to mid-morning pickups, for evening relaxations, you got it.
Now my last four and half years in America, told me that yes Americans love iced Chai, they do, but they haven’t really mastered it. Most “chai-lattes” just taste like cinnamon flavored milk. So this rant has gone far too long and let me share with you a very simple iced Chai recipe with you today.
Go to any Indian/Pakistani grocery store, there’s so many of us, I promise you will find one around you. Find the tea section, and pick up a bag of “Chai”, it will be a bag of loose-leaf tea. Next find Cardamom, its an olive green looking spice that Indian’s use to flavor a lot of foods. Pick up some milk or milk substitute and sugar, of course.
This recipe is two servings, you can always double it if you’re making more.
1 1/2 of water
3 tea spoons of chai leaves
4 pods of cardamom
2 cups of milk
Sugar – depending on your personal preference of sweetness
Bring the water boil and add the tea and cardomom in. Let boil for 3-5 mins.
Strain the tea into a mason jar or cup you prefer.
Pour over ice or just refrigerate. Mix in the milk.
Add sugar, I do two tea spoons, and stir. And let sit in the refrigerator to cool.
That’s it ladies and gentlemen, that’s the tea ;).

I’ll stop now, but there you go, try it and let me know if you like, I personally like it better than the one they serve at coffee shops, you get more for your money and can make it at home!

Way to go Keyuri!
