The love for coffee came to me senior year of high school and it’s been an exciting affair ever since. Whenever I can find the time in my busy college schedule it’s fun to do little series on coffee.
The shots I took at Urban Alchemy were personal and intimate with people smiling away at me as I took these pictures, the barista inviting me behind the bar to capture her work. They were warm and inviting. There were suburban moms sipping their wines, families and students filling up their coffee cups with more than coffee – conversations and homework!
Contrary to that, Houndstooth in Dallas has a very urban, urgent and commercial vibe. I struggled to find a spot to start my work where people weren’t on what looked like important business calls. But capturing a day in the life of the city life was exciting. Friends were chatting, families were on the ‘grab-n-go’. Chic, tailored clothes wearing people typed away at their laptops. It felt alive.
The flavor
The experience of discovering new roasts and different coffees has been exciting especially when I found the flavors I enjoy. A light roast, with a strong amount of caffeine kept me going.
The more I talked to barista’s the more I learnt of the fruity flavors or the darker chocolate-y flavors and how coffee was for everyone, you just have to find the right one.
The drinks
From pour overs to cortado’s, cappuccinos to lattes, french press to an affogato – you can ice it, heat it, mix it with some ice cream.
The french press at Urban Alchemy and their pour overs are my favorite drinks there.
Houndstooth has the best cappuccinos I have come across.
The people
The culture of coffee has to be what’s become the most catchy part of the experience. There’s always someone laughing and talking at a coffee shop, there’s so much life there. It’s almost a place to reach that silver lining.
Miss a friend? Meet up at a coffee shop!
Need to study? A coffee shop it is!
Lonely? Go people watch!
Who knows? You could make some friends or find a lover.
What would you say is your favorite thing about the coffee culture?

Superb!
